Beech Island Historical Society Honors Flo Carter

Beech Island, SC –

A CSRA music legend was honored Tuesday night by the Beech Island Historical Society.

In a special Tribute to Flo Carter, SC State Rep. Roland Smith presented a proclamation from the South Carolina House of Representatives.

Flo Carter began singing professionally at age 5.

A jazz and gospel singer, she has been a fixture here at WJBF since the beginning. Back in the 1950's and 60's, Flo often hosted a noon variety show.

"60 years and still counting with Channel 6! It gets better & better, 'gooder & gooder' and celebrating tonight here at the Beech Island Historical Society with all these wonderful people, that just piled the accolades on me- who does NOT deserve it- I thank you, I thank you! I thank everybody out there that's supported us for all these years- Flo Carter and the Sounds of Joy- my family, all of us, and we thank you so much!"

Flo and her band have performed gospel songs every month for 20 years on the Parade of Quartets… the country's longest running gospel program.
