The Beech Island Country Store was completed in time for the Spring 2019 tour and everyone who stopped by to take a look loved it. The old Coke machine, counter, signs, display case, and newly built shelves full of old store items nearly filled up the inside. Over the summer we have moved in some more things and still have many more items to fill up the building.
Everything was going great before the tour until our AC compressor went out the day before, but we were lucky that the weather was great on tour day and we did not need AC. During the summer, Mark Plunkett installed another compressor at a reduced cost.
On the outside, our restored kerosene tank was installed in time for the Spring 2019 tour. We still have to get the ESSO gas pump from the late Jim Prior’s farm restored and placed out front before we can hold our store dedication and grand opening. In August, the society received $1,000 in contingency funds from Aiken County Councilman Danny Feagin. That money, will make it possible to get the gas pump restored and maybe have a sign made.
